Hubert White was founded in 1916 by Hubert "Bert" White, as a haberdashery in downtown St Paul. The young store soon added clothing. As Bob White explains, "my grandfather had exquisite taste and a love for both clothing and people." Three generations later those same two loves are the pillars of the Hubert White mission. Bert had now added his son Bill White to his team. In 1936 a Minneapolis store was opened. First, as a shop next to the Raddison hotel, then to a location on Marquette Ave before finally settling in on downtown Minneapolis' best corner, 8th and Nicollet in the iconic IDS Tower. This move allowed the store to curate its selection from the world of renowned brands, where a lifestyle approach to a man's wardrobe allowed for updating and refinement. Ermenegildo Zegna was first. Other brands were added and edited to the store's point of view including Samuelsohn, Canali, Eton, Maurizio Baldassari, Brunello Cucinelli and Atelier Munro. A footwear department featuring over 100 styles commandeered the store's Crystal Court entrance. Hubert White was now on Esquire's list of the top men's stores in the United States. Today the store anchors the corner at 8th St and the newly renovated, Nicollet Mall. Across the street, the ambitious Dayton Project has begun to take shape, which will once again make this corner the center of people, fashion and food in downtown Minneapolis. Robert White has entered his 50th year of working at the store, the last 40 as president and CEO. His grandfather and father successfully handed down their love of clothes and people!
