Human Engineering's first study is investigating the use of the Zephyr BioHarness as a tool for monitoring the physiological symptoms and biomarkers of panic. To do this, we have developed a protocol in which participants with little to no anxiety (control group) or with significant panic symptoms (experimental group) are stressed, relaxed and rested so that we can compare and contrast these different states of consciousness which each individual experiences in their day-to-day lives. This research serves as an introduction study. This will be followed by the second Human Engineering study, which will be the use of the BioHarness paired with a mobile application called ZOE. ZOE will be the first online advanced tool for actively monitoring individuals with severe panic and anxiety in real-world setting. Not only will patients be able to monitor their current heart rate and respiration rates but they will be able to submit their panic attacks for the purpose of learning more about the physiological activity which defines panic. This will have tremendous implications for the patient's ability to conquer panic.
