Political Organization - Richmond, Virginia, United States
While Virginia's incredible rescue organizations, non-profits, and shelters come to the aid of animals in crisis, Humane Virginia strikes the root causes of problems. Our principal mission is to keep the animals out of crisis situations to begin with. We push for systemic, fundamental change for animals: advocating for laws that protect animals and remaining relentless until reform is achieved. The purpose of a political action committee is to advocate for a cause. For Humane Virginia, our cause is the well-being of Virginia's animals. We accomplish this in three ways: (1) community outreach (2) education(3) legislationThrough community outreach, we raise money to help elect humane candidates who have a proven track record of supporting animal-friendly laws. We mobilize voters, hold rallies, and generally campaign on behalf of the candidates who support our cause.Through our education efforts, we provide readily accessible resources to legislators in need of information on animal welfare issues. We also educate constituents on the issues their representatives are deciding: how those issues impact animals, and what can be done to make a difference. Finally, it is in our legislative efforts that we most literally give a voice to Virginia's animals. We appear before the general assembly to provide public testimony on pending bills, showing the world that the well being of animals matters to the people of Virginia. When animal-loving voters support animal-loving legislators, the goal of passing laws that protect animals becomes attainable.
