Chemical Manufacturing - Marietta, GA, US
A large number of industries use hydrazine on a daily basis. These highly toxic compounds, hydrazine (Hz) and monomethylhydrazine (MMH), are extremely useful fuels. These compounds are used by both NASA and USAF as a rocket propellant and also as an emergency power source on the F-16 by the USAF. Civilian industries utilize hydrazine in the manufacture of agricultural chemicals and pharmaceuticals, in photography, and as a corrosion inhibitor (oxygen scavenger) in boiler systems at power plants. Although many attempts have been undertaken to find an alternative to these compounds, none have proven to be as effective. Currently, the compounds are remediated using a variety of methods. Some of these methods include bleach, hydrogen peroxide and incineration. The use of bleach and hydrogen peroxide expose the HAZMAT technician to additional hazards. ZeenKleen is the safest hydrazine remediation technology available. ZeenKleen was developed as method to deal safely with hydrazine and monomethylhydrazine by a chemical process that produces a nonhazardous waste stream. ZeenKleen is a naturally occurring, patented organic compound with a very low hazard rating. The process has been tested by NASA and successfully used by nuclear power plants to neutralize more than 200,000 gallons of water containing hydrazine.
