History of Hydrobiology Pty LtdHydrobiology was incorporated in 2001 by Drs. Andy Markham and Ross Smith who had previously worked together in the Papua New Guinea mining industry and subsequently as individual consultants in Brisbane. The initial vision for Hydrobiology was to provide high-level scientific consulting services within a commercial framework. That vision exists today.Hydrobiology was initially run from a home office in Wynnum and a rented office at the QCAT Centre, Pullenvale. The company's first projects were for Local and State Governments involving an ecological review of the Willawong Remediation Site and a River Habitat and Processes Study for the Logan River respectively. Casual employees were initially used to assist with project work, but a full-time employee was soon appointed. Shortly thereafter, the company moved to a larger office at 41 Park Road, Milton, but soon relocated next door to 47 Park Road where the company is now locatedHydrobiology developed a wide client base both within Australia and offshore. Mining has always been an important market sector, particularly for offshore work, while other important markets have included local and state government, ports authorities, oil and gas, and larger consultants. In 2006 we opened an office in Perth to take advantage of regional opportunities and further offices may be opened as appropriate. Despite its growth, Hydrobiology has maintained a friendly and challenging work environment, with a flat management structure and an open door policy. Professional development, quality management and flexibility are seen as key to maintaining our position as providers of high-quality services.
