INTRODUCTIONThe HydroGlyde Coating represents a significant departure from conventional latex condoms. By providing uninterrupted superior lubrication that becomes activated with water, HydroGlyde effectively eliminates the need for supplemental personal condom lubricants. Our coating formulation is strategically designed to attach to and remain on the surface of natural rubber substrates. It exhibits similar mechanical and flexibility properties as latex itself to avoid delamination or cracking (common challenges associated with coating latex). The HydroGlyde Coating formulation becomes slippery when in contact with water or aqueous solutions to offer longer lasting condom lubricity. • More durable as compared to commercially available lubricated condoms • Thin design and long-lasting lubrication increases satisfaction and enhances sensation • Eliminates the need to purchase additional lubrication • Adaptable to GMP mass production processes • Composed of non-cytotoxic and non-allergenic materials used in approved FDA-devices CHALLENGEAccording to the World Health Organization and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, lack of adequate condom lubrication is a universal drawback for proper and consistent use. The minimal lubrication included with condoms is usually insufficient to maintain condom lubricity throughout intercourse. Consequently, partners will not use a condom and increase risks for the spread of STIs, or use an inadequately lubricious condom resulting in mucosal microtrauma, pain, increased risks for condom breakage, and reduced user satisfaction. Thus, there is a significant need for better condom lubricants, particularly for women in menopause and post-menopausal stages affected by vaginal dryness. Silicone fluids are the most commonly used lubricants today and are applied to both male and female condoms during the manufacturing process. Water-based lubricants are easily washed away during intercourse. Oil-based lubricants are waterproof but are known to damage latex condoms. Despite these solutions, condom consumer satisfaction regarding condom lubricity remains low.TECHNOLOGYThe HydroGlyde Coating is the first of its kind and represents a significant departure from all conventional latex condoms since this coating eliminates the need for commercially available supplemental silicone-, water-, and oil-based personal condom lubricants. To date, there have been no successful hydrophilic condom coatings on the market with adequate lubrication.
