Hyperbaric Centers of Southwest Florida was opened as a result of the emotional journey our family has taken in caring for our son and mother. This is our story in a nutshell.I (Elly) am a mother. Imagine your child, whose behavioral issues you struggled with for years, and the battles you face together; and when seeking help from doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, therapists, teachers, pastors, (everyone!) you are told your child has ADHD, ODD, OCD, and that he/she will either be dead or in jail by the time they are 18 years old. Medications don't work and a special diet doesn't either. What do you do? Add to all of this the discovery that your child has a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Now what do you do?I am also a daughter and caregiver. Imagine you find out your mother has cancer. She endures multiple surgeries requiring strong anesthesia and pain medications, then experiences several minor strokes, all of which affect her memory as well as her ability to walk, talk, and perform simple day-to-day tasks. She then breaks her hip and has hip replacement surgery. What do you do?Our discovery of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy was a breakthrough for our family. While there may be only 14 FDA "approved" indications, with a physician's order, numerous other "off-label" indications such as: TBI, the effects of stroke, and many more can be treated as adjunct therapies.Our experience compelled us to open Hyperbaric Centers of Southwest Florida because we understand the pain and stress families and individuals go through as a result of the struggles associated with supporting affected children, parents, and other family members, as well as the struggles of those family members themselves.
