We are the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR), an international organization consisting of 15 members and one of the largest and most active international river basin management bodies in the world. The Danube River Basin is our home and responsibility. We are #KeeperOfTheDanube. The Danube River Basin is the home of around 80 Million people and spans 18 countries. Transboundary cooperation in the Danube River Basin is necessary to achieve the environmental, economic and safety goals for the Danube river. After all, the Danube is only as clean as the waters that feed it. As an international organization, our role is to connect countries, communities, and interests to secure cleaner, healthier, and safer waters throughout the river basin. Our mission is to promote and coordinate sustainable and equitable water management, including conservation, improvement and rational use of waters for the benefit of the Danube River Basin countries and their people. An important part of this is implementing the Danube River Protection Convention (DRPC), the EU Water Framework Directive and the EU Floods Directive. We coordinate water improvement measures, develop mechanisms for flood and accident control, and help implement relevant international water rules reflected in the Contracting Parties' national laws.On our social media channels, we give insights into our daily work, projects, activities and results — and the people behind it all.Our 15 members are Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine and the European Union. We serve our members and are not the appropriate contact for local issues or during emergencies, such as floods or droughts that may occur in the river basin. We are not responsible for the actions and decisions of the cooperating states, the local authorities or the European Union.
