The IDEAMAPS Network was launched in 2020 by the IDEAMAPS Project with funding from a UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) grant. The network and project both grew out of workshops hosted by the African Population and Health Research Center, Slum Dwellers International – Kenya, and UN-Habitat in Nairobi in 2019.The IDEAMAPS Network welcomes field-based community mappers, local governments, academics, and data scientists to collaborate and map deprived urban areas routinely and accurately at scale in low- and middle-income countries. The aim of this network is to develop and maintain an Integrated DEprived Area MAPping System (IDEAMAPS) that leverages the strengths of our current silo-ed approaches to "slum" area mapping.
