IEEE is the world's largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through IEEE's highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities. The mission of IEEE is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity while it's vision is that IEEE will be essential to the global technical community and to technical professionals everywhere, and be universally recognized for the contributions of technology and of technical professionals in improving global conditions.Since Student Branches are the backbone of the IEEE student program and that IEEE has created a variety of resources here to ensure that they are successful in their work, a requirement to form a student branch in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya emerged. As the dedication of the students and the academic staff of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering became a success, a student branch in the Peradeniya chapter was established successfully in 2001.With the funding aids from IEEE, the student branch was able to conduct a series of programs to improve professionalism, intellectual activity, service to humanity, global focus, trust and respect …etc of its members while also focusing non-members with the second priority. Activities such as workshops, seminars, field visits, competitions were organized to achieve these goals. The students were always inspired to join IEEE and the members were always taken first for all the events which would encourage the other students also to join IEEE.
