The international Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Foundation is a highly accomplished synthetic biology competition. Teams work over the summer to complete a novel project of their choosing aimed at solving a particular problem in their community using a kit containing biological parts from the Registry of Standard Biological Parts and parts of their own design. The iGEM McMaster (mGEM) team in particular runs different projects each year. With each of these projects, we seek to build biological systems and operate them in cells, computationally model those systems, and reach out to stakeholders and educate communities affected by the problem at hand. Recruitment for our team happens each year after the annual iGEM Giant Jamboree, which usually takes place in late fall. Applications will be sent to our mailing list and will be posted onto our Facebook and Twitter pages.
