"Iles de Paix" is a Belgian development NGO founded in 1965 by Nobel Peace Prize-winner Dominique Pire.At that same time, Iles de Paix Luxembourg was created under the initiative of a few Luxembourgish people wishing to support his work. For more than 50 years now, the association has been striving for helping men and women willing to escape poverty in Africa and South America.Through the promotion of a familial and sustainable agriculture as well as responsible nutrition, Iles de Paix trains and supports thousands of farmers in order to enhance their food security and quality of life. Rural populations are trained to improve their farming production and transformation as well as to enhance distribution and sales of their goods.Training is one of our major axes of intervention. It is symbolized by the motto "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will feed himself for a lifetime." Helping farmers to harvests more instead of simply distributing bags of rice takes time and presents difficulties, but it provides opportunities of results that are far greater and sustainable for the beneficiaries. A special focus is often put on helping women to develop some activities generating additional revenues for their family. The association Iles de Paix is currently active in Burkina Faso, Benin, Tanzania, Uganda and Peru. It's more than three hundred thousand people who are concerned.Iles de Paix finances its development programs through equity financing (fundraising, legacy and donations) and thanks to the help of public offices such as the Belgian Ministry of Cooperation and Development, the Foreign affairs Ministry of Luxembourg (MAEE) and the EU
