Since 1981, the Illinois Agricultural Leadership Foundation has earned a reputation as being one of the best programs in the country as confirmed by the ag leadership positions attained by its graduates. It is viewed as the "MBA" of agriculture.It is a two-year graduate level program open to Illinois men and women (25 - 49 yrs of age) who are already engaged in various business segments of agriculture. The mission is to prepare them to become effective spokespersons, leaders and policy and decision makers in the ag industry. Class participants are chosen through a comprehensive competitive selection process. The program addresses relevant topics and issues in a series of dynamic seminars led by leaders in their field of expertise. The seminar series involves over 120 hours of classroom time at leading Illinois universities (University of Chicago Booth Graduate School of Business, Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and the University of Illinois College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences in Champaign, among others.) Visits to major corporations and travel to Springfield and Washington DC for extensive sessions with legislators and the executive branch are critical components to the education process, as is a two-weekinternational educational/study travel session. The program is funded primarily by corporate and individual gifts and endowments.
