The Illinois Art Education Association has a legacy that started back in 1931. The present association is an outgrowth of the High School Conference held in Illinois which held its first meeting at the University of Illinois on November 24, 1933. The group which participated in these conferences officially became known as the Illinois Art Education Association in 1935 and held yearly meetings in connection with the High School Conferences in 1942. Since 1948 the Illinois Art Education Association has held yearly conferences in various parts of the state. A constitution was presented at the meeting of this group in Springfield with an attendance of 130 people.Our Mission:Whereas, Art plays a significant and vital role in our culture, economy, and the education of our children, it is the mission of the Illinois Art Education Association to provide leadership for the advancement of excellence in art education.To accomplish this, the IAEA;Provides support, direction, and advocacy for quality art education;Provides professional development for the pursuit of knowledge, skills, and content in the making and teaching of art;Encourages innovation, research, and reform;Networks within the arts and with other organizations; andEncourages membership, leadership, and efficiency of the organization's operation.
