Illustrations has been a Perth institution since it was founded in 1920 by Arthur Viveash. In those days the studio handled not only photography but also graphic design and plate making.During World War II most of the West Australian army units departing for overseas theatres were photographed for posterity by Illustrations. After the war, photography continued to dominate the daily operations of the business and it expanded its services into industrial and portraiture work until Viveash died in 1956.In 1959 Noel Holly joined the company as a junior, purchasing the company six years later and changing the direction from portrait and industrial, to advertising and commercial photography.In the years Illustrations has been in operation it has worked for a myriad of other Western Australian companies. Documenting their goods and services over that period, it is still possible Illustrations Pty Ltd is the oldest established photography company operating in Australia.Illustrations continues to set the standard for creativity and technical problem-solving and the results are exceptional images for advertising, corporate, architecture, food and fashion.Our services extend to in-house digital retouching and a large format printing department for print, supply and distribution of prints up to 150cm wide, by any length, delivered nationally or internationally.Noel Holly remained the Proprietor and Managing Director until his passing in January 2014, the company is now managed by his wife Gillian and is located at 291 Fitzgerald Street, West Perth.
