In retrospect, maybe March 2008 wasn't absolutely the best time to start a new print business. The economy was in recession and businesses were contracting their print budgets. While many conventional printing companies were wondering why their business models weren't working in a new economic and technological environment, Efrain Garcia thought that the timing might be right for a new strategy.Efrain had worked in print businesses since 2004. He began as an outside salesperson for Kinko's in Torrance, CA. At that time, Kinko's was a prominent player in the quick copy segment of the print industry. Torrance was home to headquarters for several Japanese car makers – Honda, Nissan, and Toyota. Efrain found himself in the right place at the right time, making valuable contacts, learning the complexities of print and the importance of building strong client relationships.Kinko's had been purchased by Fedex in 2004 and changes were in the wind. Efrain transferred to Sausalito with the company, but began seeking new options to continue developing his skills and experience in the industry. In 2006, he accepted a position in outside sales with a well-respected independent printing company, Mill Valley Services.
