Inclusive Classrooms works with primary schools across England to transforming the efficacy of their Teaching Assistants (TAs). We offer the only UK based, ‘on the job' professional development and training programme that focuses specifically on the role of Teaching Assistants. We are motivated by a need to resolve a number of significant problems with the current deployment of TAs in primary schools, and the resulting significant challenges to achievement that the children TAs most frequently work with currently experience.Inclusive Classrooms has two key aims:1) Improve the management and skills of Teaching Assistants in England, to maximise their impact on pupil achievement.2) Improve both the social and academic achievement of the pupils that Teaching Assistants work with. What is our social purpose?Inclusive Classrooms is the first professional development programme which makes the link between academic achievement and social inclusion. Many schools are struggling with how to make inclusive admissions work for them; increasing the number of children identified with SEN in mainstream settings presents schools with a number of challenges surrounding access, curriculum, staff roles and resources.Inclusive Classrooms aims to alleviate some of these challenges by highlighting an effective focus for TAs' role, as well as presenting research-informed programmes that improve the social inclusion and academic attainment of pupils identified with SEN.It is widely acknowledged that children identified with SEN and/or having difficulties with social inclusion are far more likely than their peers to experience marginalisation, victimisation and/or bullying. The programmes of Inclusive Classrooms aim to equip these children with the skills required to lead a happy, fulfilling life in school, which in turn enables them to achieve their academic potential.
