Education/Training - N/A, N/A, N/A
India… the world's second most populous country and home to more than 322 million adults who can neither read nor write. Poverty, caste and gender disparities, and an inadequate educational infrastructure prevent millions of children each year from receiving an adequate education.Although the Constitution of India espouses the fundamental right to education and the Government offers free public primary instruction, less than 15 % of students reach high school and just 7% actually graduate. Some sources estimate that as many as 60 million children ages 6-14 are not currently attending any school. Most…if not all…of these uneducated children come from the underprivileged and marginalized segments of India's population…the poorest of the poor.Without adequate education, these children will forever be excluded from meaningful participation in their society. Without education, they are unlikely to acquire the basic knowledge, training or skills that will allow them to effectively compete in the global marketplace and seek new opportunities for self sufficiency and advancement. They will continue to be victims of multi-generational poverty. The India Education Fund of The Dallas Foundation© is determined to change this. We want to make a difference. This is our vision…this is our mission…this is why we exist.
