THE INDIE & FOREIGN FILM FESTIVAL Thurs. Oct. 17th - Fri. Oct. 18th, 2019 San Damiano Hall 127 West 31st St.The Indie & Foreign Film Festival was founded in 2014 by Father Julian Jagudilla, Director of the Migrant Center of New York. His mission: to celebrate migrants and shine a light on the experience of migration as seen through talented directors and producers from around the world. "Five years ago, when we opened the Migrant Center at the Church of Saint Francis of Assisi, we saw the need to raise people's awareness and keep immigration on their radar. We launched forums and seminars to achieve this goal. We also saw film screenings as one of the more potent vehicles to reach the public." - Father Julian Jagudilla, OFM In the past, the festival has screened stories of immigration from around the world. This year, the focus will be on those migrating across our own border, featuring the stories and perspectives of migrants here at home. Now in it's 6th year, The Indie & Foreign Film Festival plans to feature a student film block of screenings in October. Last year, for the first time, filmmakers were honored with awards in several categories. The Migrant Center presented a special award to a stand out film that spotlights their mission, which is to protect, respect and promote the rights and welfare of immigrants. Writer/director Anike Tourse won The Migrant Center Award for her film,"America; I Too." For more information please email us at info@indieforfilmfest.com
