The Council fosters the development ofknowledge, methods and practices supporting implementationof the Open Building approach across all project types includingresidential, healthcare, educational facilities, and commercial.The Open Building approach to design anddecision-making is rooted in the historical traditions of asustainable built environment, constantly undergoingincremental renewal. It is uniquely suited to the21st century built environment:• It supports ever-larger and fast-paced projectsinvolving multiple participants including users.• It demands efficiency, variety and the capacity toadapt to evolving societal and technical realities.• It balances long-term value with immediate returnon investment.Balancing permanence and change applies to existing and newconstruction as well as the urban fabric. Open Building practicesaddress both fine-grained and large-scope change, whilerespecting and reinforcing the value of stable and coherentplaces.
