Infina Finance is an investment company jointly owned by Kotak Mahindra Bank and the Uday Kotak family. Infina's primary business activity is Equity Investments as a principal. Regulated by RBI as non-deposit taking NBFC, Infina enjoys a net-worth of INR 1200 Crs (USD 200 million). Business strategy involves building investment capabilities that are not readily available in the market place. With that goal, Infina has been managing an absolute return equity portfolio that deploys a long-short strategy with three primary objectives and two secondary objectives. Primary objectives are low Volatility of returns, low/no correlation to underlying equity market and limited drawdowns. Secondary objectives are consistent mid-teen returns and the ability to absorb increasing pool of capital regardless of market conditions. As of December 2015 Infina Long-short Equity has deployed about INR 2000 Crs (USD 300 million), possibly the largest such operation among Indian Hedge Funds. Since inception in October 2009, Infina Long-short Strategy has delivered an unleveraged CAGR of 16.5%.In pursuance of the business strategy, Infina has recently started a new division to explore investment opportunities in unlisted equities. Key objective is to tap into the booming entrepreneurial talent in India and partner select early and growth stage ventures. An initial allocation of INR 200 Crs (USD 30 million) has been made for this activity. Recognising the vast and varied investment opportunities in global equity markets, Infina is in final stages of setting up an overseas subsidiary that will pursue unique businesses in the public markets in major financial centres around the world. Regulatory approvals are awaited for this venture.
