I Support Community (ISC) started in September 2012 after seeing the overwhelming need for children to possess a strong foundation in character and community. Our mission is to develop kids with character inside and out. We provide children and their families with opportunities to build and practice social and emotional skills, and volunteer through the Inside Out Club (IOC) program:There are four Inside Out Club opportunities -• In Schools – for students in grades K-5• On Weekends – for kids 3-12 and their families together• @Home – online platform for kids and families • Through Community – opportunities with local organizations IOC is designed to engage kids and families in as many of these four opportunities as possible as they practice character skills and volunteer. Working with teachers, volunteers, parents, school administrators and outside organizations, the Inside Out Club is positively impacting more than 1,400 students and their families. IOC focuses on DuPage County and its needs. What does Inside Out mean? We work to help students develop the character skills necessary to thrive in their lives, schools and later in jobs and community. Lessons are based on the foundations of social and emotional learning, which helps people recognize and manage emotions, develop empathy for others, maintain cooperative relationships and make responsible decisions. We focus on building character in kids and families, e.g., self-awareness, kindness and empathy. This is accomplished with fun learning and volunteer activities with a deeper meaning. We support local nonprofits through increased awareness and our IOC service projects. Collaboration is a key piece of our success, and we partner with organizations like the YMCA to increase our impact. A key goal is for kids to better understand themselves and to build stronger connections with others and with their community.
