Inspiring Communities is a non-profit organisation, operated by the Community-Led Development Trust. Our mission is to support initiatives that strengthen communities of place - i.e. local communities where families live, work, play and learn. We seek to actively support the ongoing learning of those involved in community-led initiatives. At its simplest we provide a networking function, connecting people and communities together to reduce ‘reinventing the wheel' and encourage open sharing and learning together. We are connected directly with seven community initiatives around New Zealand, and communicate with a wider network through a regular newsletter and our website. We hold forums and workshops to support the ongoing learning of those in our network, and to hold wider conversations around issues affecting communities. We are also involved in the formation of regional clusters of groups interested in community-led development, in Auckland, the Bay of Plenty, Southland Taranaki and Wellington (so far).We actively seek to influence policy and practice in NZ through building relationships with local government, central government, funders, academics and the social and voluntary sectors. The work of the Inspiring Communities 'Exchange' (our team of six people, or around three FTEs) is funded primarily by The Tindall Foundation with support from The Todd Foundation, the J R McKenzie Trust and others who generously contribute time, skills and resources. We have a management group and a strategic guiding group with members from multiple sectors. You can read about our approach to learning, our framework for Community-Led Development, and more community stories, on our website www.inspiringcommunities.org.nz.
