The ICR, one of the six research institutes under the National Institute of Health (NIH) Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), has been operational since August 2000. ICR functions as the clinical research arm of the MOH. It has 36 branches located at major MOH hospitals (Hospital CRC) and National Cancer Institute. Vision: To become a leading clinical research institution in AsiaMission: To improve patients' health outcomes through ethical and quality clinical researchFUNCTIONS OF INSTITUTE FOR CLINICAL RESEARCHTo provide leadership in the development and strengthening of clinical research capacity in the Ministry of Health (MOH)To facilitate the establishment of hospital clinical research centres and provide technical support to the network of Hospital CRCsTo promote and support the conduct of Investigator Initiated Research among MOH staffTo coordinate the conduct of Industry Sponsored Research at MOH facilitiesTo establish and maintain clinical database for the MOHTo establish collaboration with local, regional and international research organisations in the pursuit for excellence in clinical research in the country.FUNCTIONS OF HOSPITAL CRC ( HCRC)To support and facilitate research activities in the hospital through the provision of a) Database of clinicians interested in research – by interest areas, track record on Industry Sponsored Research (ISR) for Investigator Initiated Research (IIR) and publications; b) Technical support such as statistical analysis; c) Administrative support such as providing research assistants and study coordinators; d) Facility support such as IT, statistical software, and others, and work station;To assist in the registration of research protocol to NMRR (National Medical Research Register) and application of grants for research;To participate in clinical trials and other research initiated or coordinated by the national ICR;To promote research through capacity building
