The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) is a global network of students, from universities in over 57 countries and a variety of disciplines, who have an interest in improving healthcare. We are a community of students and professionals interested in creating a more efficient, effective and safe healthcare system that provides the best possible care for patients and all those involved with the system of healthcare. Our chapter provides students from all backgrounds, the opportunity of becoming active leaders in improving the quality of care available within our community by giving students the skills and knowledge to become change agents in healthcare. We're talking about skills like quality improvement, patient safety, teamwork, leadership, and patient-centered care. Employers are looking for these skills, and patients expect providers to have them. Health care touches everyone in our community, and the necessary improvements and solutions will come from the participation and effort of people from all disciplines. The Queen's University Chapter of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Open School is an interdisciplinary educational community that gives students the skills to become change agents in health care improvement.Mandate: to be change agents in healthcare improvement by teaching students skills of leadership, teamwork, patient centered care and patient safety along with quality improvement.
