Founded in 2005 as the J. McDonald Williams Institute, initially a part of the non-profit Foundation for Community Empowerment, the Institute for Urban Policy Research became a part of the University of Texas at Dallas in 2008 as part of a major gift to the University. Situated in the University's School of Economic, Political, and Policy Sciences, the Institute uses cutting edge research to focus on the impact of public policy on the quality of life in America's urban communities. Well known for its clear-cutting application of research to the practical issues of organizational and policy development, the Institute has become an asset to many organizations in and around North Texas.
