Research - Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain
The Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the University of Barcelona (ICCUB) is an interdisciplinary center devoted to fundamental research in the fields of cosmology, astrophysics and particle physics. Since its creation in 2006 the ICCUB has been mainly driven by three fundamental questions: What are the origin and fate of the Universe? What are the ultimate constituents of the Universe? Why does the Universe have its present appearance? The answer to these questions demands the multidisciplinary approach that ICC offers and the recruitment of highly qualified scientists and engineers. In addition, the institute has a strong technology program through its participation in international collaborations in observational astronomy and experimental particle physics. In 2015, the ICCUB was accredited as a María de Maeztu center of excellence by the Spanish Government. Selected institutes in this programme stand out for the international impact of their scientific contributions, their innovative power and for their strong relation to their social and economic environment.
