Institute of National Remembrance – Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation is the largest scientific and archival institution operating in the Republic of Poland. The tasks of the Institute include collecting and managing documents of state security organs from the years 1944-1990, conducting investigations into Nazi and communist crimes, as well as conducting scientific research and in the field of public education. The statutory task of the Institute of National Remembrance is also searching for the resting places of people who died in the fight for independence and the unification of the Polish State, who died in the fight against the totalitarian system or as a result of totalitarian repressions and ethnic cleansing in 1917-1990. Moreover, the Institute of National Remembrance conducts activities related with the commemoration of historical events, places and people in the history of the struggles and martyrdom of the Polish nation in the country and abroad.One of the goals set by the Institute of National Remembrance is to disseminate knowledge about the recent history of Poland among Poles and people from abroad. This goal is achieved through, among others, cooperation with schools and universities, as well as educational and cultural institutions, and by conducting and organizing educational events. In order to increase the effectiveness of the aforementioned activities and reach the youngest groups of recipients, the New Technologies Office of the Institute of National Remembrance was established in 2021. The Office is tasked with the digitization of materials and making them more attractive - so that they become more engaging and easier in reception.
