The Inter-Faith Council for Social Service (IFC) was founded in 1963 with the mission of addressing the significant gaps that existed in the social safety net of our community. With no paid staff or office space, IFC began providing crisis intervention assistance to people in dire need. Today it is a nondenominational not-for-profit social service organization with 25 full and part-time staff, not counting our AmeriCorps member and student interns, continuing its work of fulfilling the unmet needs of our poorest neighbors. "The Inter-Faith Council for Social Service meets basic needs and helps individuals and families achieve their goals. We provide emergency shelter, food, direct services, advocacy and information to people in need. We accomplish this through strong partnerships with volunteers, staff and those we serve. We rely on the active involvement of caring individuals, congregations and other community organizations." – Mission StatementOur Food Pantry supplies groceries and our Community Kitchen offers 3 free hot meals per day. Community House provides shelter to homeless men and HomeStart offers emergency and transitional housing to homeless women and children. Prevention Programs deliver crisis intervention services including information, referrals and financial support (i.e. for rent/utilities) to prevent homelessness.
