The International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit [IIMD] is a long-existing Detroit-based non-profit agency founded in 1919. The agency transforms the lives of low-income immigrants, refugees and U.S. born Detroit/Metropolitan Detroit resident through innovative solutions to advancing economic mobility. This is achieved through 6 core services as follows: 1. Adult Education/Workforce Development; 2. Legal Immigration; 3. Financial Coaching; 4. Case Management and Income Supports Coaching; 5. Community Development; and 6. Entrepreneurial training. Beginning as a movement--founded on the belief that immigrants were best served by immigrants--Edith Terry Bremer, a social worker involved with the Women's Trade Union League and the Settlement Movement created the first International Institute in New York City. IIMD's founding value and its steadfast commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion remains at the heart of its mission today.
