Tai Chi and Qigong (TQ) are increasing in popularity in Western countries, such as Australia, UK, the USA, and in Europe. Several studies have demonstrated the health and wellbeing benefits that Tai Chi/Qigong can offer. However, at present, there is no regulating body to establish Instructors' qualifications. Therefore, despite the health benefits that Tai Chi/qigong may provide, it is difficult for health professionals to confidently refer patients to a qualified, safe and credible instructor. The International Medical Tai Chi and Qigong Association (iMTQA) seeks to fill this gap as the international professional body accrediting and registering Medical Tai Chi Qigong Instructors. The purpose of the iMTQA is to promote health and wellbeing within the community, and ensure safety of the general public by:1. Establishing and promoting accreditation standards for the delivery of Tai Chi and Qigong programs in a safe and ethical manner;2. Creating training and professional development opportunities for Tai Chi and Qigong instructors consistent with the accreditation standards established by the iMTQA;3. Encouraging networking with other MTQ Instructors and relevant health professionals;4. Acting as an advocacy and representative body for qualified Medical Tai Chi and Qigong instructors in their dealings with government agencies, the general public and the medical community.
