De Internationale Vereniging voor Neerlandistiek (IVN), opgericht in 1970, vertegenwoordigt academici die zich bezighouden met de neerlandistiek in brede zin (taal- en letterkunde, cultuur, geschiedenis, kunstgeschiedenis, etc.) aan onderwijsinstellingen, instellingen van wetenschappelijk onderwijs en onderzoek, en anderszins gerelateerde instellingen in de hele wereld. De IVN biedt een forum voor de studie neerlandistiek in de ruimste zin van het woord, heeft bijna 600 leden in zo'n 40 landen en bedient daarmee zo'n 13.000 studenten (bron: TaalUnie.org). Voor haar werking ontvangt de vereniging financiële steun van de Taalunie.
