Intiwawa is a dynamic young organisation that fights poverty in the slums in Arequipa, the second largest city in Peru. Founded in Peru and Germany in 2007, today our network consists of multiple teams in Holland, France, England and Hong Kong. Our main focus is in a small settlement on the outskirts of Arequipa called San Isidro. Why? Living standards for most families in San Isidro are miserable. Poor standards of hygiene and a lack of sanitary facilities in San Isidro cause water pollution and malnutrition. Furthermore, poor education leads to a high level of illiteracy, making it difficult for families to improve their lives. Child labour and domestic violence are part of everyday life in a Peruvian slum.
