investBETA is a youth organization in the GTA dedicated to providing experiential education opportunities for students interested in investment banking, asset management, private equity roles, or beginning their journey in high-finance. A student interested in technology has the opportunity to get involved with a local start up, or a student interested in marketing can work with a local company to build their skill-set; however a student interested in finance seldom receives an opportunity outside of their school clubs to build their finance skill-set.Our most recent initiative involved hosting the GTA's premiere highschool stock pitch competition. Placing students into teams of 2, the pitch involved building fully developed theses, identifying catalysts and risks, as well as a complete financial model to arrive at a DCF-based price target. Our panel of judges included Justin Oh, CFO of Medalogix, a fast-growing PE-backed healthcare analytics business based in Nashville, TN. with extensive experience at Citadel and Deutsche.Another initiative we continue to work on is developing an educational finance series. A highschool student wanting to learn about the markets and financial skills often gets overwhelmed in complexities and academia. Through our Medium publication, we strive to make this information is accessible and applicable as possible.
