Invisible Studio is a radical and innovative architectural practice founded by Piers Taylor. Taylor is a Chartered Architect, the Studio Master for the new Design and Make masters program at the Architectural Association, a former design fellow at the University of Cambridge and a founding director at Mitchell Taylor Workshop. Invisible Studio is a different organisation from a conventional practice in that it is comprised of people from complementary disciplines. It has been conceived as a provocative and polemical vehicle for the realisation of architecture – a practice that operates through collaboration, experimentation, research and education, which works internationally and very locally and in a variety of fields. With each project, we aim to realise something extraordinary. We are interested in rethinking attitudes to design process, and freeing architectural design from the tyranny of the sanitised design studio. We are interested in going about the process of architecture in a different way – a way where clients, users, collaborators and makers are all part of the process. Our work encompasses a number of seminal buildings which have won a plethora of awards and been published widely and internationally. We aim to set the standard for a new type of progressive architectural practice – a practice bound together by a shared experimental ethos, a creative organization agile enough to reinvent itself as necessary, and a practice fearless in pushing boundaries.
