Lasers produce a coherent (i.e. continuous) sine wave of electric field, and a corresponding orthogonal magnetic field. But it is never a pure sine wave. There is always some amplitude variations, known as AM noise, or Relative Intensity Noise (RIN), and some frequency variation, known as Phase or Frequency noise. Ioptis designs and manufactures specialized lasers and the electronics to control them to achieve ultralow noise, both in terms of phase/frequency, and relative intensity. This is critical for high-speed telecommunication and many types of remote sensing, e.g. LIDAR for autonomous vehicles, or acoustic sensing.
