The Irish Ladies Golf Union (ILGU) is the governing body for amateur women's golf in Ireland. It was founded in 1893 and is recognised as the oldest Ladies Golf Union in the world. The national head office is based in Sandyford, Dublin and there are five administrative Districts; Ulster, East Leinster, Mid Leinster, Connacht and Munster. Each district is run by an elected District Executive which supports the clubs and competitions within the region. Golf is the highest participation female sport in Ireland, with almost 50,000 female golfers in the country aged from 8 to 88, playing on a regular basis. ILGU affiliated clubs are spread across all geographical areas providing a combination of sporting and social activites in both urban and rural areas of the country. The ILGU holds National and District tournaments annually, for players of all ages and standards of playing ability. The ILGU also selects teams and individuals to represent Ireland at International tournaments at Under 18, Women's and Seniors (Over 50) levels.
