Information Technology & Services - Bournemouth, England, United Kingdom
IT Kidz of Africa is a British education charity based in the small village of Ijede in Nigeria, teaching disadvantaged children basic information technology skills. The programme which has been running successfully for three years bases their lessons on the British National Curriculum Key Stages 3 and 4. By doing so, the students gain a higher level of computer literacy than those attending nearby private schools, enabling them to gain employment in the nearby city of Lagos. The establishment named The Old Reading Room centre, formally the village library, houses 50 computer stations, teaching 40 students an hour for 6 lessons a day, resulting in just under 1,200 students being taught a weekly programme.Upon graduation the students have the opportunity to interact with UK volunteers over a ten day period. During this time the volunteers assist the students in creating their curriculum vitae and teach them essential interview techniques.
