ITEC is an interdisciplinary research group of KU Leuven (University of Leuven, Belgium) and imec, Flanders' high-tech research and innovation hub for nanoelectronics and digital technologies. Researchers at ITEC conduct both fundamental and applied research on the design, development, and evaluation of personalized and adaptive digital solutions, aimed at helping experts and end users to make effective decisions informed by data analysis and visualizations.Primary application domains include education and training, media, and health. Outcomes of the research comprise theory-informed and empirically-based design guidelines for the effective integration of technologies in these application domains, and novel techniques for extracting information from structured data as well as from unstructured textual data.This research focus requires interdisciplinary collaboration between people trained in the learning sciences (instructional design for educational effectiveness, statistical modelling), applied linguistics (language learning and natural language processing), and computer science (data mining, machine learning and artificial intelligence). In order to realize cross-fertilization between these disciplines, ITEC is housed in a cooperative research structure at the Kulak campus of KU Leuven in Kortrijk. ITEC also forges collaborations with partners in industry and society, both locally and internationally, with a view to maximizing impact of the research.
