Established in 1948, IUCN is the world's largest global environmental organization. Over the past two decades, the IUCN Global Gender Office has carried out a variety of strategies to enhance the gender responsiveness of the sustainable development arena, including: • Developed national Climate Change and Gender Action Plans (ccGAPs) in partnership with 13 countries and 2 regional bodies. • Developed more than 70 gender tools and publications in a variety of environmental sectors. • Launched the first global measurement system on gender and environment, the Environment and Gender Index. • Guided the development of major institutional gender frameworks, including the UN bodies focused on environment (UNEP), biodiversity (CBD), disaster reduction (UNISDR), desertification (UNCCD). • Conducted the Gender Review of the World Bank's Climate Investment Funds • Spearheaded strategic collaborations to take gender to a global stage, including the Global Gender and Climate Alliance (GGCA) and Network of Women Ministers and Leaders for the Environment. • Trained thousands of government delegates, multilateral representatives, and NGOs on gender and environment.
