Business as usual isn't working for the people who helped build San Jose. I've knocked on doors for months; neighbors continually voice their concerns about homelessness and housing affordability. They know we need change. Schools face yearly cuts, break-ins are increasing, all while many families and seniors are forced to leave San Jose.As Chair of the CPA's Public Banking Action Team, I worked with City Council, State Senate and State Assembly to pass historic legislation for public banking and local investment: policy that will help finance affordable housing, public education, and small business investment without raising taxes. My life has been dedicated to helping my community. Serving in the Peace Corps taught me to listen, build lasting relationships, and create effective solutions. With that approach, I was able to help bring clean water, vital healthcare, and educational services to villages in Morocco.I love my job as a biomedical engineer, but I also care deeply about building a future for all of us.
