As an artist, my general products may have morphed over time in materials and content, but the underlying goal remains to exploit the humor of human nature and entertain the wearer/viewer.I create pieces that challenge the wearer's sense of scale, appropriateness of material or concept and simply bring delight in the intimate, handmade object. I was mid-way in my studies at the University of Washington, when I began experimenting with 24k gold. My attitude, irreverent at best, spurred me to smash and strike and melt, then forge, melt and forge...until the piece of pure gold became a means of process, rather than an end result. Named The Everchanging Ring, this project allows the owner to wear their ring, or ingot, for a time, then return it to me for a change. Recycling at its best, or just fun with hammers, either way the project has brought with it a new understanding of customer relationships!Another side of my personality is clean and constructed. Robot necklaces, fabricated satellite dishes, long-range rifle scope targets and more allow for a balance in my studio.Meanwhile, I worked part-time for 10 years at Facere Jewelry Art Gallery, where I still show my jewelry. I became a member of Soil Gallery in 2002, where together with the other 20 or so members, we keep the doors open of a rare non-profit experimental gallery. And, since 2004, I have worked as an assistant, a tailor and stylist for in-studio and location photo shoots.
