Music - Philadelphia, PA, US
One day in October of 2014, six Temple University students came together with an idea of creating an organization that would lift the Philadelphia jazz scene into the eye of the average Philadelphian and pave the way for jazz education in the public school system. At that meeting, Jazz Lives Philadelphia was born. The group of co-founders, comprised of six undergraduate students across four different schools at the University, worked tirelessly to develop a business model that included performance programs for the public and build an education program to reach children both in and out of the band room, all the while involving the communities and neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Creating and implementing performance and education programs that bring together the community of Philadelphia, the Jazz Lives team has expanded their programs at a rapid pace. In one season alone, Jazz Lives Philadelphia's educational initiatives reached over 500 students ranging from ages 6-18. In our first season, our performance programs reached over 800 people.
