Established in 2011 by Tina Jing Ru Shen, Jing Ru Shen Art Studio's initial objective is to propagate the art of Chinese paper cutting. Based within Sunlight Adult Day Care Incorporated, the art studio does not only offer classes to senior members. It receives students of all ages who are interested in learning about the history and craft of paper cutting. Jing Ru Shen Art Studio is currently open to graphic design, marketing, and branding projects as well. Having studied Chinese paper cutting for fifteen years, Tina Jing Ru Shen is knowledgeable in traditional Chinese arts. As her interests in the arts grew, she attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art to learn about Western visual art. From her growing knowledge of European and modern art, Tina began to integrate Chinese traditional styles with Western motifs in her paper cutting work. Tina's passion for Chinese paper cutting took the public stage when she was interviewed by SinoVision television station, The China Press, and Hong Kong's The Mirror magazine. She has also demonstrated Chinese paper cutting for the United Nations, New York Philharmonic, Chinese Consulate, Healthfirst, and United States-China Cultural Institute, and Brooklyn Borough President, Eric L. Adams. Currently, Tina is majoring in Graphic Communication and minoring in Marketing at Baruch College. She is aspiring to be a graphic designer or marketer, and hope to eventually promote her artwork to mainstream culture. Tina was a Graphic Design intern at Red Storm Graphics, Inc., and she has been working for Sunlight Adult Day Care, Inc. for two years as a Chinese paper cutting teacher to senior citizens. At Baruch College, Tina was involved in Golden Key International Honour Society for two years, Sigma Alpha Delta Honor Society for one and half years, and Dollars & Sense, her college's online magazine.
