Conservative businessman and former Newt Gingrich aide John McCallum is a Republican candidate for the United States Congress in Georgia's First Congressional District. John knows firsthand the power of the American Dream. Shortly after graduating high school, his family lost everything. He worked three jobs to pay his way through college. With no money or political connections, he drove to Washington, D.C., and landed an unpaid internship with an up-and-coming Georgia Congressman named Newt Gingrich. Fourteen months later, John was promoted to the position of budget, banking, and tax aide during the Contract with America. While working in the Speaker's office, John met his wife, Heather – the first woman with a disability to be crowned Miss America. Heather lost her hearing as an infant after a life-threatening battle with meningitis. John has dedicated his life to helping others realize the American Dream. As Executive Director of the Technology Association of Georgia Foundation, he spearheaded one of the first math, science, and technology charter schools in the state of Georgia. He currently serves as the managing partner of JAM Capital Partners, which has invested in building and growing a dozen small and medium-sized businesses responsible for over 1,300 jobs throughout the United States. He also served in the U.S. Navy Reserve. John earned a Bachelor of Science degree in commerce from Washington and Lee University, where he was twice selected as an NCAA All-America football player. He later received a Master of Public Administration degree from Harvard University. John and Heather reside on Saint Simons Island, Georgia, and have four young boys: John, James, Wilson, and Liam. They attend Saint Simons Community Church.
