About Limón and his Company: · Longest continuing dance company in America, celebrating its 65th Anniversary in 2012 · Was the first dance company invited to perform at the newly opened State Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in 1964· Jose Limón was appointed as the FIRST cultural ambassador in any medium by the US State Department to represent the US abroad. · A company signature work, Missa Brevis, was developed from Limón's work as Cultural Ambassador on a trip to Poland 10 years after the end of WWII. It deals with a community's recovery from devastation. The work was performed on the evening of Sept 10 & 11 as part of the cultural offerings of 10th anniversary of 9/11 – a fitting piece for the occasion.
