José Pizarro has lived in the UK for 16 years and in that time has worked at some of London's most prestigious Spanish restaurants including Eyre Brothers, Gaudí and Brindisa, where he set up and ran the tapas bars. In June 2011 he opened his first solo venture to great critical acclaim – José, a tapas and sherry bar. The following November he opened Pizarro restaurant. José appears regularly on BBC1's Saturday Kitchen and has also appeared on UKTVFood's Market Kitchen. Recently he appears in Weekend Kitchen with Waitrose.His first book Seasonal Spanish Food, published in Autumn 2009 by Kyle Cathie , was very well received. He followed this up in 2012 with his book Spanish Flavours published by Kyle Books – which garnered rave reviews from the British and Spanish press.José Tapas and Sherry barIt's small and cosy, located on Bermondsey Street.The daily menu depends on what looks good at the market on the day. You'll see a mix of new dishes as well as old favourites.We maintain a diverse wine and sherry list from both established and small producers of Spain. You will find wines and sherries here that you won't see anywhere else.Pizarro RestaurantThe full-sized restaurant is one block away from José. At the front there is a bar, offering a great selection of sherries and Spanish wines, with a spotlight on cavas, Spanish style gin tónicas and Spanish vermút. At the rear is more formal restaurant seating – tables for 2 and 4, banquettes for 4-5, a large communal table for 8-10 people and a private dining room for 8-10 people.We offer a selection of small and more substantial dishes that can be served as starters and mains or as tapas for sharing. As usual, we want to bring you delicious food with bright new flavours – the season's best on a plate. Pizarro restaurant has won the Food and Travel Magazine Awards (Restaurant of the Year & Newcomer of the year, 2012) and World Food Awards (Restaurant of the Year 2012).
