Since then, JOHB has visited a large portion of Botswana. The Big Journey has evolved with each year and now includes not only the 12 original pink scooters; but also 4 pink vehicles, a pink van, an ambulance and a truck that carries all equipment and luggage. The riders, crew and medical personal in attendance amounts to approximately 30 volunteers. In excess of 1000 breast exams are conducted on a Journey and an average of 50 people are assisted with further examination afterwards. Breast Cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancers; with early detection, the survival rate is high. Early detection through education and awareness is the primary aim of Journey of Hope.We believe that:• Breast Cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancers. With early detection the survival rate is excellent and is a crucial part of the Journey of Hope message.• In Botswana, and particularly in the rural areas, many women die needlessly of breast cancer due to a lack of awareness of the signs and symptoms of the disease.• Visiting these rural areas and teaching self-examination techniques also allows women to have their concerns assessed which is imperative.
