Sports - Anaheim, California, United States
JUSA began in 1973 when a few local soccer enthusiasts introduced the game to our community by offering organized games to neighborhood youth interested in learning a new sport. Approximately 400 boys and girls participated in the first year under the name of "MINIKICKERS." The name was changed to JUSA in 1974 and boys and girls from Brea and Fullerton brought the total to 900 players. In addition, an affiliation was established with the cities of La Habra and El Toro to provide a complete season of scheduled games. By 1975, JUSA narrowed its geographic area of play to Anaheim, Placentia and Yorba Linda with Fullerton and Brea as associates and still grew to 3,000 players by 1976. JUSA incorporated in 1975 and joined the newly formed California Youth Soccer Association as an independent club. The JUSA program expanded further in 1977 with the addition of organized 'clinic' play for 5 and 6 year olds and the addition of a Competitive program affiliated with the Coast Soccer League for the more talented older players. In 1981, membership peaked at nearly 4,500 players making JUSA the second largest independent soccer club in the United States at the time. From the beginning, JUSA's goals have been to advance and promote the physical fitness of youth in the community, to develop the skills and knowledge of the game of soccer, and to promote the game of soccer by providing organized competition.
