Breathing Life Into LeadershipKaizen is a Japanese word that literally means "improvement." The kaizen philosophy has been applied across the wide spectrum of the business world—from healthcare to manufacturing—in an attempt to lean practices and continually improve all aspects of a business.In my work as a leadership/business advisor, I've expanded on the kaizen philosophy to get at the core of what makes a leader in this 21st century successful. For me, kaizen starts with humanizing the workplace, re-energizing individual employees, and injecting the entire work culture with renewed vigor and forward momentum. When you break the word into two parts, I find you discover a deeper meaning that gets to the heart of what I hope to offer: Kai, a restorative and innovative change; and Zen, the peaceful good of all.
